Contour Line

A contour line is a line used to define the edges and outlines of a form. It is probably the most common use of line in art, according to our book.

This piece by Picasso is a perfect example of a contour drawing. This is simple, and shows just the exterior edges of the subjects.

In this contour drawing of a still life, notice that there is no shading. Also, notice how deliberate and precise the lines are.
